New Products.

It's official I have no restraint when it comes to buying hair products. However I'm giving myself a pass this time because last week I attempted to make my own conditioner using Shea butter and that a disaster not only did it refuse to wash out with water alone it left my hair feeling weighed down and very oily. Soo it's a NO on the D.I.Y Shea butter conditioner, my latest conditioner purchase are Aunt Jackie's moisturising and softening conditioner and a small jar of III sisters of nature sweet bounce back (they compare themselves to Miss Jessie's sweet back treatment which seems to get great reviews) . I was excited at the fact that my local beauty supply store had these products, English stores never seem to stock the good products and I can't wait to try them both. I'm hoping that my search for a staple deep conditioner will now be over.

Homemade Shea Butter Mix.

For about 2 weeks I have been in pursuit of the perfect deep conditioner one that was thick but creamy, moisturising and left my hair soft and fluffy and does not cost me an arm and a leg. Some people will probably think I'm asking too much of a product im just going to wash but I don't as I feel deep conditioning is the most important part of my hair regime.
I have searched high and low, read and watched product reviews and I still couldn't make a choice, I then decided to make my own if the ladies on YouTube can do it then so can I loool! It wasn't until I actually got started I kind of thought hmmm can I really do this but I did and here's my recipe (I still need to tweak it)

100% pure Shea butter
4 table spoons of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO)
2 teaspoons of JBCO
3 table spoons of grape seed oil
4 tablespoons of coconut oil
And I also used the remainder of my Darcy Botanicals sweet cocoa whip as I decided it was too thick and the price I paid for it meant I could not just throw it away.

  • I started of by whipping the shea butter till it was smooth and all the bits had been removed.
  • I then added the DB moisturising whip and whipped till they were smooth.
  • I added my oils and blended some more to make sure it mixed well.
  • Poured the mix into a container and voila.

If my hair likes this mix I will defiantly be making it again. I found the whole process exciting so fingers cross it gives my hair good results.

Wash Day and Relaxer Prep.

I was in two minds as to whether i could be bothered to wash my hair over the weekend but my friend reminded me that I have a goal to achieve and being lazy won’t get me there. In about 2 to 3 weeks’ time I want to relax my hair so I made sure to fit a protein treatment in this week.

(1) I started with a pre poo treatment of Garlic, EVOO and peppermint oil, I heated this on the radiator in an applicator bottle and parted my hair into 4 sections. I put on a shower cap and left it for 30 mins.

(2) Rinsed out the oils whilst my hair was in the 4 sections and then shampooed with Crème of Natures ultra-moisturising shampoo twice and rinsed clean.

(3) I then applied Aphogee's 2 min reconstructor to my hair, placed a showercap on my head and left it in for 10 - 15 min and rinsed out.

(4) I wrapped my hair in an old t-shirt to soak up the excess water and thenapplied my Darcy’s Botanicals Sweet Cocoa bean moisturising whip to my hair, placed a shower cap on my head and wrapped a scarf round my head (I really need to invest in a heating cap or a steamer lol) I left this in my hair for just over an hour and rinsed it out.

- Although I like the Darcy Botanicals whip I’m still not 100% sure about it, the conditioner is abit too thick for me so I’m now on the lookout for something creamier.

(5) I wrapped my hair in another old T-shirt and left my hair to dry for about 20 mins then added my leave in, (ORS curls undefined) and braided my hair into 4 sections and left my hair to air dry overnight.

- I officially HATE ORS products (except their relaxer). When I woke up and undid my braids my hair was dry and crispy, it was like I had left my hair to air dry without any products in it. I had to rectify the problem with some JBCO pomade and grapeseed oil and re braid my hair.

2013 Hair Goals.

I have decided to keep my hair goals very simple this year.

  • This year i want to tackle my dry/itchy scalp.
  • Stay away from direct heat
  • Reach BSL by the end of the year
