Castor Oil Challenge.

- Castor oil provides many benefits for hair. Castor oil smooths the hair cuticle, adds moisture, makes hair more manageable and controls an oily scalp. For centuries, people created hair treatment out of the seeds of the castor plant, Ricinus communis, for hair growth, hair loss, dry hair and dandruff problems.

After cutting my damaged ends off I decided to try a castor oil challenge, I attempted this challenge a year ago but was unable to commit to it mainly because I found castor oil to be too thick and sticky, the smallest drop onto my scalp would somehow coat the strands of my hair leaving my hair feeling weighed down. However after reading up on the benefits of Castor oil I have decided to give it another go, this time I plan to mix my castor oil with another carrier oil and and essential oil and apply it to my scalp 3 times a week.

The oils I chose to mix with my Jamaican Black castor oil are Jojoba Oil and Eucalyptus oil, mixing the oils together makes applying the oil to my hair easier.

So far I have been applying the oils to my hair on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings and bunning my hair during the day. I hope to see some results soon which I will be documenting.

New Oils and their benefits.

I recently purchased some more oils to add to my current regime and my hair products collection. I've been trying to curb my product junky tendancies and stick to my current staple products until I felt they no longer worked for me. However can be also be used as part of a hair regimen to enhance the product you already use. After a few days of researching the oils i decided to get 2 carrier oils and 3 essential oils.

The oils I chose were:

Avocado oil:
Avocado can be used to help nourish hair and skin that lacks moisture. Avocado
contains vitamins, minerals and fats that will help restore your skin and hair to a shiny and beautiful state.

Jojoba oil:
Jojoba oil improves hair by both preventing moisture loss and balancing the production of the scalp's natural oil, sebum, to a healthy level. This means that jojoba will help the scalp produce the right amount of sebum to prevent dry or oily hair.

Peppermint oil:
Peppermint oil helps remove excess sebum from the scalp, it also produces a cooling effect when placed on the skin because it contains menthol. This tingling effect is why peppermint oil is so popular as a hair growth stimulant among its supporters.

Lavender oil:
Lavender oil is a significant source to promote hair growth. it is said that if you are experiencing a hair loss condition such as alopecia, you can benefit from this oil. This regenerative oil is used by manufacturers in producing scalp and hair products.

Rosemary oil:

Rosemary oil helps in stimulating follicles, as a result of which, hair grow longer and stronger. It is also believed that rosemary oil slows down premature hair loss and graying of hair. Rosemary essential oil is also beneficial for dry and flaky scalps. Regular massage of scalp with rosemary oil nourishes the scalp and removes dandruff.

Relaxer Day.

Today has been long awaited and I'm so excited to be ending my 11 weeks stretch today.

(1) I started off my parting my hair into 4 sections.

(2) Added 2 tablespoons of Extra Virgin olive oil to my ORS creme relaxer.

(3) Applied my relaxer to my hair leaving my nape and edges till last and left the relaxer in my hair for 12 mins.

(4) I rinsed out the relaxer 1st before applying the neutralizing shampoo. I left it for a few mins before rinsing it out and repeated the process.

(5) I applied Hair One cleanser and conditioner and rinsed it out.

(6) Applied Aphogee's 2 min reconstructed, covered my hair with a plastic cap, left it on my hair for 10 mins,

(7) Did a green tea rinse.

(8) Used a towel to soak up the excess water and applied Aunt Jackie's in control moisturising conditioner, I covered my head with a plastic cap and left it for 45mins.

(9) After rinsing out the conditioner I sprayed my hair with Elasta QP's design silk onto my hair (I wanted to give this product a second chance) and did a roller set.

Hair Update.

After staring at my hair and my ends for about 3 hours I decided to cut them off, they looked thin and damaged whilst the rest of my hair looked thick. Usually I would have tried to baby my ends to see if I could get them back into shape but this time around I would rather incur a set back now instead of later on down the line. I want to be BSL but I also want my hair to look and be healthy.

- I also want to try a castor oil challenge to see if it will speed up my hair growth, I have heard great things about its benefits so I am going to be  applying JBCO to my hair every other day until my next relaxer day.

Hair Thoughts.

I have really been struggling with my hair this week, after spend the majority of Monday fighting with my u part wig at my desk, I decided to give up, take it off and try and care for my hair for the rest of the week *sigh* I need to be BSL like NOW.. Usually after removing my braids I would turn to my blow dryer and hair straigteners but I'm on a no direct heat ban so I cant. I had this bright idea to try a curly twist out on Monday evening and I didn't like it so I ended up putting my hair into a bun.

On a brighter note Elasta QP Olive oil and Mango moisturiser is helping to soften my new growth, I really can't wait till the weekend to apply my relaxer to this new growth.

Wash Day

I was suppose to relax my hair today but iv spent the past week itching my scalp and I know once the relaxer touches my scalp its going to burn. Soo I decided to wash my hair and try some of my new products.

(1) I did a hot oil treatment with ORS vital oils and JBCO. I put on a plastic cap and let it sit in my hair for 3 hours.
(2) Washed my hair with Hair One hair cleanser and conditioner, before rinsing out the 2nd application I detangled my hair.
(3) Did a green tea rinse by putting 2 tea bags in a cup of hot water and putting it in a spray bottle. I left this in my hair for 8-10 mins
(4) Parted my hair into 4 sections and put Aunt Jackie's in control moisturising conditioner through out my hair. Left that in my hair for 45 mins and rinsed it out.
(5) Applied Elast QP olive oil and mango butter growth moisturiser on to my hair and let it air dry.

Whilst detangling my hair i only lost a small amount, which i was very pleased to see.

I am currently 10 weeks post relaxer and today's wash day went surprisingly smoothly.
