Product Review: Kanechom Mixed Chocolate Conditioner

Product Description:
Kanechom Mixed Chocolate Conditioning Mask is an intense mix that provides hydration and softening. It restores the texture of dull and damaged while the cocoa extract provides regeneration, leaving them with intense, soft and healthy glow.

My Opinion:
I have had this product for a while now and initially I wasn't going to do a review but I decided to do one anyway. After reading a few blog reviews and watching some videos on youtube I decided to give it a try. When I did finally get one of the Kanechom conditioners I was soo excited and planned to use it my very next wash day.

The 1st time I opened this product THE VERY FIRST THING I noticed was the smell, it had a sweet chocolatey (almost sickly) smell to it which doesn't go away once it is rinsed out. However it wasn't until I applied the conditioner that I knew that me and this conditioner were not going to work out, lol. Now in previous posts I have said that I love me some thick, creamy conditioner especially when deep conditioning, so you can imagine my face when I tried to scoop up this conditioner and it slipped through my fingers URGH!!!. The watery consistency made applying the conditioner difficult, I was over this conditioner by now but I decided to see if the results would be worth it and the results were ok, my hair didn't feel any different and it did not make my hair worse.

I have used this conditioner and a pre poo and as a deep conditioner and to be honest I don't really have a lot to say about this product other than its okay. I was actually planning on throwing it out but I decided to keep using it until it is finished.

Wash Day (7 Weeks Post)

(1) Started off with a Pre shampoo with raw shea butter base, I added some Kanechom conditioner along with some of my homemade garlic treatment. I applied the mix to my hair and placed a plastic cap for and hour.

(2) I shampooed with Shea mouisture shampoo.

(3) I then applied Aunt jackies deep conditioner and left that in my hair for 2 hours.

(4) After rinsing my hair I left it to airdry wrapped in an old top.

(5) Applied Darcy Botanicals leave in and sealed with my Shea butter mix, braided my hair into 3 sections and left my hair to air dry over night.

The next day I undid my braids and mouisturised with African pride Shea butter leave in and applied an oil mix to my scalp and left my hair alone for a few more hours. I then braided up my hair up ready for my wig.

My opinion:
I have been using this leave in conditioner for a few weeks now and it is now a staple leave in conditioner. I suffer from dry hair and no matter what I do my hair never seems to stay moisturised and it was beginning to work my nerves mainly because when I have a lot of new growth dry hair and detangling can be the main source of breakage which we want to all avoid.

The 1st thing I noticed about this leave in was the smell, it has a fruity scent and smells a lot like mango's (it contains mango butter) and the 2nd was the thick creamy contents of the product. I love thick moisturisers and leave ins mainly because I feel they work the best on my hair. Since I have been texlaxing my hair it has been a lot harder for me to keep my hair moisturised for long periods of time however my hair has been staying moisturised for longer.

They say that the 1st 7 ingredients are usually the most potent in a product and this leave in has some of the best natural ingredients for hair so in a nut shell this will be my staple mouisturiser until another leave in comes along and knocks it out of 1st place.

2014 Goals.

It's a brand new year and although I didn't note down any of my goals for the year 2013 I had a mental note of them. This year I want to expand my goals so that my hair was not the only focus, it's still the main focus but not the only one.

This year I want to adopt a regime where I am able to achieve healthy hair, body, mind and skin. My goals will be pretty simple that way I am more likely to achieve them .

My Hair Goals for 2014 are:
  • Protective style using wigs for at least 6 months.
  • Only use heat on relaxer days.
  • Improve the health of my nape.
  • Trim my hair only when needed.
  • Retain as much length as I can.
  • Sort out my dry, itchy scalp.
I'm hoping  that if I stick to these goals then I can hopefully achieve full APL (Armpit length) before the year ends.

Wash Day.

(1) I started off with a Pre shampoo treatment using raw shea butter added hello hydration herbal essence conditioner and mixed in coconut oil, grapeseed oil and some aloe Vera juice.

(2) Shampooed with Komaza care shampoo.

(3) Deep conditioned with Aunt Jackies.

(4) After rinsing out the conditioner I sprayed some ACV mixed with water on my hair and scalp.

(5) Once I rinsed out the ACV mix I wrapped my hair in a towel and waited till the excess water was soaked up.

To help with my dry scalp I mixed tea tree oil, eucalyptus oil, grapeseed oil and coconut oil. Applied it to my scalp and massaged them in.

Then applied African Pride silky hair moisturiser and sealed with my coconut oil, continued to air dry my hair.

             My hair whilst air drying.

I am currently 5 weeks post relaxer and my hair looks more natural than relaxed, Im not entirely sure why but I think I like the texture of my hair.

Wash Day

(1) I started off by warming up coconut oil, grape seed oil and JBCO, applied the mix to my hair and let it sit.
(2) Diluted my shea moisture shampoo and applied it directly to my scalp.
(3) Followed with a green tea rinse (with a few drops of tea tree oil added) left it for 10 mins and rinsed.
(4) I then applied my deep conditioner for an hour and rinsed.
(5) Towel dried my hair for 10 mins before wrapping my hair with and old shirt and letting my hair air dry for a few hours.
(6) Applied my moisturiser mix (see here) and sealed with my shea butter mix (see here) before blowdrying my hair on a low setting.

My top knot bun after blowdrying.

I then braided up my hair and sew down my part wig.

Scalp Issues

Hi everyone, hope you all had an amazing christmas and a wonderful new year. I was not planning on coming back with an update until my wash day however I have been having some scalp issues. Over the Christmas period i decided to wear my wigs to protect my hair but my scalp became irritated and the itching forced me to stop wearing it.

My itchy scalp is an ongoing issue and I have tried almost everything from natural oils to scalp treatments and nothing seems to work. I was not planing on buying or trying any new products for a while but after doing some research on hair products that contain Salicylic acid  which is used to treat dandruff.  came a cross a hair care line that has products with this ingredient, however one product caught my attention Groganics Liquid Scratch Daily scalp tonic.

I have used this product a couple of times now and so far so good, I will stop wearing my wig for a week to monitor my scalp but the real test will happen when I go back to wearing my wigs.
