Protective Styling : The U-Part wig

What is a protective style: This is a style that requires little manipulation, protects the ends of the hair by keeping them tucked away.

Why do I protective style: I mainly do protective styles to give my hair a break from combs and heat.

What are the types of protective styles: There are loads of protective syles that can be done such as braids/twists, a sew in, wigs, high buns any hair style that keeps the ends of your natural hair protected can be seen as a protective hairstyle.

My favourite protective style was once a weave however after watching a few YouTube videos I realised that there was an alternative called a u-part this is now my favourite protective style. A u-part wig is when you sew weave tracks onto a dome cap instead of you actual hair, you then have a choice of either sewing the wig to your head or securing it using clips, I choose to sew my u part down for added security. I love u parts mainly because I can take it off when I want and wash condition and moisturise my hair underneath and then put the wig back on and leave my hair alone.

Wash Day.

Today I'm washing my hair mainly because I'm going to be too busy tomorrow. I'm also really eager to try this moisturising hair whip by Darcey's Botanicals.

(1) I started by doing a hot oil treatment with Extra Virgin Olive oil and coconut oil, covered my hair with a plastic cap for 30 mins.

(2) I diluted my Cremè of Nature Shampoo with some water and applied it directly to my scalp with an applicator bottle. I decide to dilute my shampoo to see if shampoo is the cause of my irritated scalp.

(3) Applied Alberto Balasm coconut and lyche conditioner to my hair and detangled with a wide tooth comb, left it for a few seconds and rinsed it out

(4) Dried my hair with an old t-shirt and parted my hair into 4 sections and began applying the hair whip, put on a plastic cap and left it in for a little bit over an hour. The whip melted into my hair instantly.

(5) I rinsed the hair whip and wrapped an old t-shirt and left my hair to air dry.

After using the sweet cocoa bean hair whip my was soft and fluffy. I need to use it a few more times before I can defo call it a staple.

New Product.

In previous posts I have mentioned that I was on the hunt for a staple deep conditioner, one that was thick and could not only coat my relexed strands but also my mouisturise my thick new growth, after reading other blog posts and searching reviews online I came across a company called Darcey Botanicals. They are a company that produce natural products for both skin and hair and one product that caught my eye was the Sweet Cocoa Bean Moisturising hair whip.

I ordered my product from www.britishcurlies.co.uk as Darcy Botanicals is an American based company and being that I live in the U.K delivery would have probably cost more than the product itself.  British curlies also threw in a sample of Jessi Curl Too Shea conditioning treatment :).

I am really excited to try this product.

Hair Memoirs 101 : How to Combat Shedding.

In my previous post I mentioned that whilst washing my hair i experienced some shedding and that although it was not a lot I deemed it necessary to nip it in the bud.

So why did i choose to use garlic, I originally got the idea from a youtuber (I cant remember which one) but whilst she was giving her viewers a run down of her hair regime she claimed that she would often use a garlic shampoo which helped her reduce the amount of she lost whilst she was washing her hair. Although i found this interesting I wasn't too keen on the idea of using a garlic shampoo on my hair however i did decide to do a little research on the benefits of Garlic and what it could do for my hair. After reading a few testimonies, blog posts and articles it was obvious that using garlic was going to be beneficial to my hair.

Health Benefits of garlic include:
  • Antibiotic properties.
  • Antifungal properties (which can kill the harmful virus, bacteria, and fungi found in our body).
  • It makes the immune system stronger and enables us to fight several infections.
  • When applied on hair, it can control hair loss and improves the overall hair texture.

Garlic treatment-
  1. Crush cloves of fresh garlic and add to preferred oil i.e Extra virgin olive oil
  2. Let it marinate in the oil overnight.
  3. Heat up the garlic infused oil and apply to hair, let it sit in your hair for 30 mins to a hour.
  4. Wash and condition with smell nice hair product.

Wash Day

  • 1.      So it's wash day again, I really can't be bothered BUT I need to be committed. Today I'm starting off with a pre-poo with JBCO on my scalp, I then put Cremè of Natures intensive treatment thoughout the length of my hair.

  • 2.      I followed by washing my hair with Cremè of Nature ultra moisturising shampoo.  I chose to lather up twice to ensure my hair was clean but to also make sure I didn't strip my hair.

  • 3.      Whilst rinsing the shampoo out of my hair I noticed a little bit of shedding, it wasn't a lot but I hate seeing my hair in the bath so I mixed up a quick treatment which consisted of some extra virgin olive oil and some garlic salt (I would usually use fresh garlic but i did not have any) I heated it up then applied it to my hair and added Organix Hydrating Macadamia oil conditioner.
4.
  •   4.  After rinsing out the conditioner mix I saw a lot less hairs in the bath which I'm happy about. I squeezed the excess water out and wrapped my hair in an old t-shirt until my hair was a bit dry.

  • 5.       Today I’m going to use a bit of heat, so I’m prepping my hair using ORS curls unleashed leave in and Profectiv hair serum.
